Kaiju - Mammaloid

Description

Inspired by the fantastic :iconking-edmarka:, I decided to give some of the Kaiju designs I had lying around a little overhaul and depict them all on one piece of paper to show their different sizes in relation to one another and give some background information about them and the world they live in...

Nobody knows when the first Kaiju arrived or where it came from... some say it has been here for millions of years and awoke from its slumber beneath the earth, some say it came from outer space while others blame top-secret government experiments and even interdimensional passageways. Even if somebody once knew, that knowledge has long been lost in an ever-changing world. Years after the first emergence, there came a second... and a third... and a fourth... flooding Earth with monstrosities of unfathomable size. While humanity was still able to keep up with the Kaiju threat at first, the gradually rising amount of incursions soon proved to be too much for the faltering humans and our society crumbled and burned. What was left of humanity retreated underground or sought refuge in the ruins of their once great civilization. Living in the shadow of the Kaiju, humans live their daily lives in mortal danger from the gargantuan new rulers of Earth. Even though not all of them have it in for humans and there are even some benevolent ones, most of them don’t really pay us any particular attention and see us as nothing more than ants. Most behave like normal animals while some seem to pursue a clear objective.

Along with a multitude of smaller creatures such as parasites and symbiotes, they also seemed to introduce a plethora of otherworldly plants that clung to their skins as seeds or grew from their dung. Over time, our Earth not only got reclaimed by native plants, entirely new, alien plants overran the lands and grew to immense sizes, creating sprawling canopies over our derelict cities and streets. Looking at it now, Earth is almost unrecognizable, its face having been reshaped by the Kaiju.

Camazotz - named after the bat god of Maya mythology, this comparatively small eyeless Kaiju thirsts after human blood. Seemingly having no head, its chest is covered in an array of sensory organs to detect humans from miles away in complete darkness. In addition to locating humans, it can also use this array to send out extremely high-powered sound waves that can destroy the targets’ eardrums, cause immense pain, incapacitate and even kill. It is not clear if it actually eats its prey as it does not appear to have a mouth and the few survivors of an attack were too traumatized to speak ever again.

Kheglen - despite its humongous size and fearsome appearance, this Siberian Kaiju (which is believed to be one of the first) not only well disposed towards humans, it has even been seen protecting small settlements from malignant Kaiju. It is armed with gigantic antlers and large tusks to fight off opponents. In fights, it can rear up on its hind legs to appear even larger and to use its heavy hoofed feet to lash out. Beneath its shaggy fur, a thick layer of skin and fat acts as an armor to protect it not only from the cold but also from injury.

Hadnii Mangaa - it might be named after the Mongolian boogeyman but this burrowing Kaiju is actually rather harmless. It spends most of its time deep underground digging cavernous tunnels with its six shovel-like paws. Due to this, it rarely comes in contact with humans and only causes damage or death unintentionally when it comes up to the surface (or when the tunnels collapse). It usually avoids conflict but when threatened, its strong chisel teeth can cause some serious damage.

Cabrakan - sharing its name with the Mayan god of earthquakes and mountains, this heavily armored monstrosity seems to have a penchant for destruction. Actively trying to destroy human settlements and kill people for no apparent reason, it is a huge threat in South America. Too thick to be pierced by conventional projectiles, its spiked armoring is its greatest defense and weapon - armor plating extending from its lower arms can be used as powerful stabbing and cutting weapons and its short tail can act as a club. In addition to that, Cabrakan is able to curl up into a ball, covering every unprotected area and rolling into its opponents.

Kholomodumo - rumored to be the very first Kaiju, this mountain of muscles and horns roams the vast plains of Africa. It tends to stay away from humans, only attacking when provoked. There are also stories of Kholomodumo stepping in to help and protect humans which has lead to it becoming the center of many myths and belief systems. Equipped with a plethora of claws, tusks, horns and antlers as well as thick armor-like skin, it can take on almost every other Kaiju without sustaining deep wounds. To deter possible attackers, it can spray a mist of noxious liquids from glands underneath the tail.

Mngwa - relatively small in comparison to other Kaiju, Mngwa is nonetheless a force to be reckoned with. A strong, ferocious, and highly intelligent predator, it is capable of using tools and savagely attacking and chasing off much larger Kaiju. This tough Kaiju seems to be almost tireless in combat and relies on its unbelievable strong bite to kill prey. While the thumb claws are grotesquely enlarged, it rarely uses them for killing and usually uses them to wrestle down prey or fight off opponents. They are also used for climbing.

(even though it is all written in the singular form, there may be multiple individuals of the same type of Kaiju)

This is pretty heccin awesome. These are quite original and this drawing captures the sheer scale of everything. But just wondering, have you considered insectoid/arthropoid kaiju?
