Extinct Darwinian animals

Description

Before the planets oceans evaporated, Darwin IV was a lush paradise inhabited by countless animals. The era of animals with eyes has already come to an end and the vanishing oceans will cause a mass extinction of unprecedented proportions, wiping out almost 90% of all species.
Two animals from this paradisal transitional period are depicted above

Hornbacks
These skittish tripods inhabited the dense tropical forests of prehistoric Darwin IV. Its flattened heads were covered in nostril-like orifices to feed on air-plancton - microscopic plants and animals that still inhabit the atmosphere of Darwin IV.
The hornbacks will give rise to one of the largest animals native to modern-day Darwin IV: the majestic groveback.
The groveback’s ancestry from these cursorial animals can still be seen in their tripedal juvenile form.

Red Snapper
These semiaquatic carnivores used their strong fins and their dexterous cranial hunting arm to hunt down torpedo-fish in high-speed chases. They spent most of their lives in the water, but went ashore to mate, rest and escape from aquatic predators.
