Description

Somewhen, somewhere on Earth, a writhing mass spreads across the wasteland. Though there have not been any humans on Earth for a long time, their presence can still be felt wherever one looks. Nature has been bent to man’s will, perverting it, reshaping it for a multitude of new purposes. Feral technology roams the ruins of their former masters' derelict cities, salvaging and assimilating whatever they can, competing with what little remains of the natural flora and fauna. Without human maintenance and intervention, once helpful technology turned cancerous, taking hold of the ravaged world, pumping out spores to further their kin. Wherever these omnipresent spores settle down, they will begin to consume the biomass present, the elements and whatever else they can find to utilizing it as building blocks to fuel their rapid evolution and spread.

Out of the few places the spores can’t reach, natural life has made a bastion for itself, a save haven for organisms of animal or GMO descent. These secluded places have become a melting pot of different ancestries, teeming with all sorts of strange and twisted new forms, isolated from the cancerous growths. These secret gardens are not the only place where animal life can be found. Once again proving to be more resilient than one might expect, showcasing their enormous strength in their fight to survive, animals have adapted to the synthetic environment. Fighting back against the technological plague, they have have learned to hunt the feral tech and even feed on it. Skittering among the ruins of the old world, the closed-off megastructures and the synthetic flesh, burrowing through the hardened and dried soil or soaring hight above the wastelands, they have been able to carve out an existence. Neither side able to tip the scales in their favor, nature and technology coexist in an uneasy truce.

Well, it's essentially confirmed that these are descendants of man-made self-replicating nanobots, so no need to speculate there
